Drainage & Ditching
Running water damage is the most common cause of footpath degradation; it rapidly cuts channels through path surfaces. To help prevent or reduce this, we sometimes dig ditches parallel to paths or lay drains underneath them.

In the above photograph we are digging a trench in which we laid a drain to divert water from a natural spring away from its destructive course down a freshly laid footpath on the slopes of Upper Wharfedale.
